.... Put Up
forgot to mention....Bottles.. that's where we had our dinner and ended the weekend outing... Good Mexican food. It was quiet an effort to reach the place...next time maybe
Put up
TIN CAN Island is the area where we are put up. Tin Can Island, Apapa, Lagos is a port area. It’s more of an industrial area; you cannot call it an attractive area but it is near to the place where I have to work. About Lagos in brief from what I heard... It’s the biggest city in Africa after Johannesburg; it has the largest number of expat Indians after Kenya, cost of living in very steep. Cost of upma as written in the menu lying in my room is 500 Naira (Nigerian Currency, 1 Indian Rupee is equal to 3 Naira’s). I am put up in an Indian managed hotel with an Indian restaurant, it’s called Karma.
At the end of the week we did eagerly venture out to see other parts of Lagos, the more supposedly happening place or area is called VI (Victoria Island). We went to VI. We were suggested few malls, Silver bird and Palms. Silver bird was kind of a small mall, Palms was a bigger one… but they are still evolving. We were suggested some beaches, so ventured to one of the beaches called ‘BAR Beach’ it was very rudimentary… on the Atlantic ocean.. .not well kept. The good beaches we were later told is little far off… a longer drive of around 2 hours towards the border of BENIN. Have to check them out and more places next time around.....

...... Travel to Lagos
Boarded the plane to lagos from dubai after a wait of around 6 hrs.... the plane was almost full but not as full as the flight from mumbai to dubai. Its a lOOng flight.... a long travel in train it seems is better than a long travel in the flight... atleast in the train one can peep out of the windows... what do I peep out of the plane and look at... well most of the times when one looks out of the plane window one finds staring straight at cold white tempertaures.... ranging from -36 degs to -52 degs or thereabouts.
After somewhat boring flight... with loads of food to eat and lots of interactive console entertainment.. (watched almost 2-3 movies...) we reached Lagos at around 8:30 in the evening. A company represntative had come to receive us... my first contact (although my co passengers were Nigerian) with Nigeran in Nigeria... It was the fastest exit through the airport.. cannot divulge much over here..Its a secret... will let u know if u ask me secretly.. about the secret. Once out It was darkness of the night and we were tired could not see much around... A vehicle took us to the hotel.. we got untired and freshned up... had authentic Indian Food.

Travel to Lagos
First things first.... after checking the map I found that there country NIGER is also land of the nigers rather than NIGERIA.
Well travel to Lagos was quite eventful.... as always I reached well before time and waited on my colleague... he was on time. We went and found a huge mass of people for the flight from Mumbai to Dubai.... the flight was in such an unearthy hour. Tried sleeping could not find sleep. So roamed around the new swanky duty free terminal at mumbai airport. In between there was announcement that the flight was delayed for around one hour, so I roamed more in the same direction and same area ... multiple times.. like one circles around a temple(pradikshina). Finally got into the plane and the plane crawled into the sky at around 6:15 (actual time 4:20) Indian time.
The flight was Emirates and hence landed at the dedicated Emirates Terminal at Dubai International Airport. Emirates is huge.. and hence a huge terminal .. Its like a hub connecting the world. At the airport you could find anything and everything. One could buy anything, if one had enough money. One can buy anything if one has enough mney, It is opulence personified...........................to be contd..

Onwards... to the land of the niger

In about ten days I should be on my way to land of the Niger river in the land once called 'The dark continent'. So I thought to take this opportunity to renew my nearly non existent blog writing habit (yeah prodded and pushed on by some people). I am to reach Lagos on evening 14th Feb'11 after 13 hr flight from Bombay to Dubai to Lagos. Its a work assignment, but there is always a.. what you call it.. a kind of curiosity of NEW.
